MK Thomson (b. 2001) is a figurative oil painter from Ullapool in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland. Her practice explores impermanence, the finite nature of the body, and the enduring capacity of figurative painting as a visual language. Working through a process-driven engagement with oil paint, Thomson rearticulates the human figure as a site of ambiguity and atemporality, informed by philosophical thought and painters such as Justin Mortimer and Gerhard Richter. Her monumental figures oscillate between solidity and precarity, reflecting the unstable conditions of contemporary being. Thomson holds an MFA with Distinction (2025) and a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, and her work has been widely exhibited, with paintings held in collections across the UK, Europe, and Australia.
