Nick Rosenoer

Nick Rosenoer is a Jewish photographer and tattooist from the Bay Area, California. Drawn to photography’s ability to hold contradiction, he approaches the medium as a lyrical form, not to explain or define, but to hold what resists articulation.

In 2023, he began In Velt Oys Velt, a long-term project documenting the Haredi community of Stamford Hill, London. Often described as the midpoint between Jerusalem and Brooklyn, Stamford Hill is known for being particularly frum, or religiously conservative. The project examines the community during a pivotal moment of upheaval and change: the influence of Israeli policy on local politics, the rise of antisemitism, migration from traditional enclaves, and a record number of members breaking from the establishment. Working as both insider and outsider, Rosenoer traces the contours of a private world, striving for spirituality while grounded in the material and profane.

In 2025, he travelled to Azerbaijan to create White Apple Red Village, a lyrical documentary exploring the world’s last surviving shtetl (Jewish village) in the Diaspora, and its unusually harmonious relationship with neighboring Muslim communities. The work follows the daily rhythms and gestures of coexistence in a region shaped by foreign occupation, religious persecution, and cultural resilience.

Rosenoer began his MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art in 2024. His work has been featured by the British Cultural Archive and The Jewish Chronicle. In 2025, White Apple Red Village received the Artful Dodgers Darkrooms Award, while work from In Velt Oys Velt was shortlisted for Portrait of Britain Vol. 8.
