Alla Samarina

Alla Samarina is a British artist based in London. She grew up in St. Petersburg and was involved in the underground art scene of the late 1980s that spruned the intimately related New Academy Art Movement, the Soviet rock band Kino, Pop mechanika and the group Kolibri of which she was a member from 1988-90.

She left Russia in 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union and moved to London where she worked as a fashion model for Philip Treacy, Alexandra McQueen and Vogue. Her work is mainly figurative and portrait from life but she also experiments with different media and varying degrees of abstraction.
