Shelley Kirkwood

Shelley Kirkwood is an accomplished photographic artist based in the USA whose work delicately bridges observation, memory, and reverence for the natural world. With a BA from Hampshire College and an MFA from the University of Arizona, her practice spans decades and continents, blending historical photographic techniques with contemporary digital processes and sculptural experimentation. Rooted in the landscapes of western Massachusetts, where she lives and works in a 19th-century church, Kirkwood’s imagery is deeply informed by both the intimate subtlety of New England’s seasons and the expansive drama of the American Southwest. Her work has been exhibited internationally and recognized by esteemed institutions such as the Royal Horticultural Society and FotoNostrum Photography Biennale, with recent features in Orion Magazine, the Boston Globe, and New England Home Magazine. With a quiet intensity, Kirkwood’s photographs invite viewers into a slowed-down encounter with nature—one that asks for reverence, close attention, and emotional presence.
