Lydia Cecil’s work is representational, based on studies from life. She delves into the characters of her portrait sitters, and arranges contemporary still lives with elements that form part of her daily life. As she moves between London and Malta, the differing influences of the city and the Mediterranean provide backdrops for her figurative work. These mainly focus on the female form in ordinary, unscripted moments captured away from idealisation or objectification.

She was trained at the London Atelier of Representational Art after a history degree at the University of Edinburgh. She was an artist in residence for the Tiapapata Art Centre in Samoa and the New Generation Festival in Florence, where she met her husband, the artist Burlò. She has been exhibited around the UK, Malta, and Samoa. She accepts commissions and tutors at Raw Umber Studios and College Arts.
